The historic first Leadership for Health Summit honored the philanthropic efforts of first ladies from Africa, culminating in a gala awards show at the Beverly Hilton. The gala, a joint effort of U.S. Doctors for Africa, founded by Ted Alemayhu, and African Synergy Against AIDS and Suffering, featured performances by Patti Austin and Natalie Cole. The two-day health summit hosted first ladies and delegates from African nations and paired them with key political figures, health-care policy exports, and, of course, Hollywood stars.

The lovely ladies were welcomed by our own First Lady of California, Maria Shriver, who has been a leading voice for empowerment of women around the world. Some of the many celebs who participated in the conference included Jessica Alba, Naomi Campbell, Berry Gordy, Chris Tucker, and Robin Wright Penn.

The first ladies and delegates from African countries—including Angola, Cameroon, Mozambique, and Tanzania—were thrilled with this innovative approach to bettering the lives of millions of Africans.
